It’s almost time!

This morning I was awake at 5:00.  By choice.  Couldn’t stop thinking about what else I need to get ready and load into the RV .  In two days we leave for our annual trek to Montana and will get our hunting season started.

Our time in Montana is the highlight of our year.  For 6 – 8 weeks it is just us and the dogs, wide open spaces, lots of birds and the time to enjoy them all.  We park our travel trailer in the remote areas where we hunt; it is well equipped and we need to make the long trip to town only about once a week for water, fuel and supplies.   Although the dogs and the hunting is why we go, it’s the total experience that makes it so memorable.

I usually carry a pocket camera in my vest.  As I walk up to the dogs (we usually run 4 dogs at a time so we get lots of pointing/backing), I snap a couple of photos, then pocket the camera and load my gun to walk in to flush.   At the end of each day Mike cleans the birds, we feed the dogs, and we sit down to dinner and I put the days photos up on the laptop.   Not only is it fun to see them but we have also found that it is a very good way to evaluate and discuss dog work and sometimes the photos or video show us something that we otherwise would have missed.

I do take my ipad with me so I have internet at times so I will be checking in.  Hunting seasons are opening up around the country so I look forward to hearing about other’s hunts.  We plan to hunt ruffs in MN before returning to KS so perhaps our paths will cross.
