Pedigree
River hunts at moderate range and speed, has strong pointing instincts, and is a very persistent and driven retriever. His offspring tend to have classic Ryman-type heads and conformation, with strong drive and determination.
If you’re looking for a stud dog that can improve the hip strength in your line River has no equal. His record for producing good hips is exceptional- as far as we are aware unmatched in field English setters, and possibly in any type of ES. The breeding he is out of, October Blue Sage x October Mountain Besseya was particularly strong- 28 OFA evaluations, 11 Excellent, 17 Good, which in combination with his production record demonstrates the strength of the genes River is carrying.
River’s offspring record as of 9-29-15
Total offspring with OFA evaluations: 57
Final Excellent: 2
Final Good: 1
Preliminary Excellent: 10
Preliminary Good: 41
Preliminary Fair: 3
These results are from breedings to our own females. Most of the prelims were done under one year of age so won’t be listed on the OFA web site. We are happy to provide the OFA report numbers on request.
River is untrained except for basic control, and his performance in this video on wild chukars is typical of what he does naturally, without any training to be staunch on point. He will let you walk by, but when the birds don’t go out he wants to move in with the gun.
River carries Orange, Tricolor, and Chestnut. Stud Fee $1300

Lisa, I am a bit tardy offering comment, but am glad to get to it now. Of course, we just bred Josey to River, so that’s our endorsement in River. He really is as stunning as his photos suggest. We think he’ll prove in 15 years to have the same influence on today’s breeding programs that we have see now from sires like Pinecoble Roam and Alder Run Leftik. And.. it just occurs to me as a write this that those two dogs figure prominently in River’s ancestry, especially Leftik, correct?
